From Hospital to Home: 
Setting the Agenda for 
Serious Illness Research in Our Communities

 

PaRC’s 2024 Annual Retreat took place on October 10th from 8am to 1pm at the University Club, Ballroom A. The retreat highlighted local organizations and palliative care researchers committed to improving the lives of people living with serious illness in our Pittsburgh community and beyond. The event’s keynote speaker was Dr. Kimberly Johnson from Duke University, and a lively panel discussion tackled the pressing issues, opportunities, and community needs faced by local organizations in the realm of serious illness care. PaRC faculty researchers and poster presenters presented on community-focused research.

Dr. Johnson gave the keynote address at the 2024 PaRC Retreat on the topic "Disparities in Serious Illness Care for African Americans: Why We Must See Color."

Four panelists--Jennifer Vennare of UPMC, Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Gregg of Destiny of Faith Church, Dr. David A. Nace of the University of Pittsburgh, and Mary Hartley of the Arc of Greater Pittsburgh discussed the future palliative care in the region.
