Overview of HPI

Founded in 1980, the goal of Pitt’s Health Policy Institute is to improve the well-being of the population through research-informed policy that reflects the best scientific evidence available. Today we achieve our goal of Informing Policy for Better Health by focusing on three critical areas of research that build on our strengths: aging-in-place research (in our Healthy Home Laboratory or HHL), federal and state program research (in our Medicaid Research Center or MRC), and pharmaceutical policy research (in our Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing or CP3).  To tackle these three key challenges facing the U.S. health system – caring for a rapidly aging population, supporting vulnerable people, and providing equitable access to drugs - the Health Policy Institutes conducts objective, rigorous research and analysis in partnership with foundations, health plans and systems, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. Please join us in this collaborative work to advance evidence-informed public health policy to improve health for everyone.
