Ann-Marie Rosland, MD, MS

Dr. Rosland is the Director of the Caring for Complex Chronic Conditions Research Center, an Associate Professor of Medicine with Tenure at the University of Pittsburgh, and a Core Investigator with the VA Pittsburgh Center for Health Equity and Research Promotion (CHERP).

Dr. Rosland develops new ways to support self-management of diabetes and other chronic health conditions, in health care and community settings. Currently, as Principal Investigator of the NIDDK-funded MPowerHub study, Dr. Rosland is developing new ways to integrate wearable monitor data with health behavior goals to support successful self-management for adults with Type 2 diabetes. As Principal Investigator for the NIDDK R01-funded Families Taking Action for Health (FAM-ACT) and the VA HSR Merit-funded Caring Others Increasing EngageMent in PACT (CO-IMPACT), Dr. Rosland developed new techniques and technologies to effectively involve family supporters in self-management for adults with diabetes.

Dr. Rosland also studies primary care delivery for patients with complex healthcare needs. She is the Contact Principal Investigator for the High Risk Veterans (RIVET) 5-year Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) Program, which studies ways to advance the ability of primary care teams to provide evidence-based care for complex, high-risk patients. She also leads the Office of Primary Care-partnered VET-PATHS project, to develop informatics tools that use machine learning and health system data to support effective primary care management for complex patients. Dr. Rosland has directed the VA National Office of Primary Care High Risk Core, a nationwide investigator network examining trends and innovation in primary care for high-risk patients, since 2015.

Dr. Rosland mentors researchers and students at all levels. In all of her work, Dr. Rosland is passionate about healthcare systems- and community-partnered research, team science, and robust and creative dissemination of research findings.

Recognition of Dr. Rosland’s research contributions includes selection for Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and VA HSR&D Career Development Awards, the Association of American Medical Colleges Early and Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Programs, and the National Academy of Medicine Scientific Advisory Panel on the Evidence for Patient and Family-Centered Care.

Dr. Rosland is board-certified in Internal Medicine and serves as a primary care provider for Veterans at the VA Pittsburgh Medical Center.
